ConVac
ConVac is ABB's new generation of vacuum contactors, suitable for electrical switchgear in AC power distribution systems, especially ideal for applications requiring frequent operation. It features a linear drive design, with the operating mechanism and vacuum interrupter contacts moving in the same direction, ensuring superior operating characteristics and a longer service life. The three-phase separate pole design further enhances its insulation and mechanical performance. Electrical and mechanical interlocking functions are also available to meet specific customer requirements. It includes both electrical and mechanical self-holding capabilities, simultaneously meeting major international and domestic standards such as GB, IEC, and UL.
VSC
1. Vacuum Arc-Extinguishing Technology: Utilizing a vacuum arc-extinguishing chamber for current interruption results in a short arc duration, minimal contact wear, and superior electrical life and operational reliability.
2. Suitable for Frequent Operation: A key feature of VSCs is their ability to meet frequent opening and closing requirements, making them particularly suitable for the frequent starting and stopping of medium-voltage motors. They can also be used for switching transformers, capacitor banks, and other loads.
3. Long Mechanical Life: The operating mechanism is designed for high-frequency operation. Compared to vacuum circuit breakers, which are primarily used for protective interruption, vacuum contactors emphasize mechanical durability, making them suitable for continuous industrial operation environments.
4. Modular and Compact Structure: The compact overall structure allows for application in medium-voltage switchgear and motor control centers, reducing installation space within the cabinet and facilitating equipment integration.
5. Low Maintenance Requirements: The vacuum arc-extinguishing chamber employs a sealed structure, eliminating the need for replenishing the arc-extinguishing medium. Under normal operating conditions, maintenance primarily focuses on inspecting the operating mechanism, auxiliary circuits, and mechanical components.
6. Applicable to various medium-voltage loads
Typical applications include:
Medium-voltage motor control
Transformer switching
Capacitor bank switching
Industrial power distribution systems
Medium-voltage motor control centers (MV MCC)
7. Can form protection schemes with fuses
VSC contactors can be used in conjunction with medium-voltage fuses and other protective devices according to system design. The contactor handles frequent opening and closing during normal operation, while fuses and other protective components provide corresponding fault protection functions.
8. Facilitates automated control
It can be combined with auxiliary contacts, protective relays, and control systems to achieve remote control, interlocking, and automated operation, suitable for modern industrial automated power distribution systems.
9. Environmentally friendly
It uses vacuum as the arc-extinguishing medium, without relying on SF₆ gas for arc extinguishing.
10. ABB VSC and VD4 have different positioning
VSC is mainly positioned for frequent operation and load control; ABB VD4 is a vacuum circuit breaker, focusing more on power distribution system protection and fault current interruption. Therefore, for medium-voltage motors that require frequent start-stop, VSC is usually more suitable for these applications.
